I learned of In The Flesh last night through the scene in which Kieren's dad describes how he found his body. I immediately started watching. And god is it amazing. Spoilers for all of In The Flesh. It really connected with me on a deep level. Season one especially. Kieren and his family's experience with his suicide was relatable on a level I cannot even express. When Rick showed up and died again.. Kieren had to lose him a second time and that is so horrible.
When I started season two I already knew of the existence of Simon and that he would end up romantically involved with Kieren because I accidently spoilered myself when looking at the wiki to see if it was canon if Kieren and Rick were together. I didn't like Simon at first. I wasn't a fan of Amy at first either. Their devotion to the undead prophet was not great in my eyes.. And I felt like Kieren and Simon's romance kinda came out of nowhere? Like ok Amy's obsessed with him, he holds Kieren's hand once, and now we're kissing?? I warmed up to Simon in time though and by the time his backstory came around I was fully behind him. It's not as relatable to me as Kieren's, but what he went through was devastating. I'm glad he chose to stay with Kieren and his family in the end.
It's too bad there's no more. Cancelled or something. I'd love to see where the story kept going. I really loved Amy and Philip's relationship though I'm really sad about that. Philip really redeemed himself. I wish Kieren would've said something about Simon having that blue oblivion though. I thought he was gonna when they were sitting in the hospital waiting room before Philip came in with Amy.
Also isn't it a bit of a contradiction, the plot point of Kieren being the first risen? Earlier in season one when he was having flashbacks to being in the coffin, didn't he see himself digging up and being surrounded by people? Did they just make up that plot point for season two? Also who the fuck is the prophet anyway? He spoke to Simon and the other ones who were the first to be medicated, so is he not a zombie? Also I hate that most zombie's facial features change when they go rabid. Most notable with that school boy. Kieren's face didn't change at all.
And I did hate Simon in the beginning but god I think I'm starting to think he's hot now. I see there's 1200 ao3 fics so I'm gonna go get started on reading some of those.
